Miss America's Poignant Pearl of the Week
On discussing where she and her family will be moving after school is out in May:
Miss America: "I don't want to move where any black weirdos are."
TG is appalled and quickly admonishes her. "We don't talk like that around here."
Miss America: "But, Mommy, I don't like black weirdos. I like it here."
TG continues to explain passionately about insensitivity and bias. Racial equality is something our family believes in steadfastly, and we tolerate nothing less in our house.
Miss America is distraught now. She tears up and says, "But, Mommy, they might crawl on me and bite me."
Sometimes you just need a translator.
That's too funny! She's so cute by the way!
ReplyDeletehaha yeah we had a similar incident when my kids were little.
ReplyDeleteShe is very adorable ;)
She was right all along. Maybe if she had said black weirdos with red dots on them?
ReplyDeleteI love it. And kids that age can usually give even non-racially biased adults a lesson in equality.
ReplyDeleteEWWW!!! That photo totally freaks me out. I'm with little Miss America there. Run!
ReplyDeleteLove it, love it. Our Ry wondered where all the brown boys were in his new school. We finally figured out he meant gingerbread boys that his teacher in SC had given them as "good" kid treats. Too funny.
ReplyDeleteIf only we stayed that funny when we grew up!
ReplyDeleteSo glad she's not a raging racist!
ReplyDeleteAmen to that, Miss America! I don't like them either :)
ReplyDeleteOh, that is cute! She's so right! I don't want to be near a creepy, crawly weirdo like that, either!
ReplyDeleteadorable!
ReplyDeleteomg thats funny... from the mouth of babes comes truth...
ReplyDeleteHa !
ReplyDeleteCLASSIC!!! Thanks for sharing! That's going to be a fun story to repeat to her when she gets older! LOL!
ReplyDeleteOMG, what a funny thing. I can just imagine the tension before her real meaning became clear!
ReplyDeleteLmao!! This conversation came just in time for black history month.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, thanks for the gross spider picture. BITCH! ;)
Yuck! I'm with her...I don't like black widows either!
ReplyDeleteGrandmas do not need translators... I got it the first time.
ReplyDeleteShe's such a cute patootie.
Di
The Blue Ridge Gal
(We had black widows on our back patio sometimes in Tempe. I'd just take my flip-flop and smack 'em.)
Awww!! How cute! Kinda like a friend of mine whose daughter was asking about if we have foreheads... but it was Four Heads. Kids are awesome! My son had a crush on a little girl in his class. He said it would work out perfectly b/c he wanted to be a farmer and she wanted to be a pharmacist.
ReplyDeleteAll your people who commented so far have stories good for Art Linkletter's "Kids say the funniest things".
ReplyDeleteThis little gal is full of mischief and full of charisma as well. You gotta love her.
I love this posts. It make me chuckle out loud!!!!
ReplyDeleteHahaha priceless!!
ReplyDeleteThat is hilarious. Sounds like something Mec would say... although sadly Mec is much older and has no excuse ;0)
ReplyDeleteIncredibly cute picture. Glad it was all resolved, but she's right, spiders are gross.
ReplyDeleteVery funny. Not so funny are the ones we found in our yard, a nest near the meter, another one near the kids swing set...Gross, can't stand them.
ReplyDeleteI was relieved to see that spider, the first time ever I was glad to see one! I abhor discrimination.
ReplyDeleteSecretia
Whoopsie. A lesson to be learned by all of us a la Miss America.
ReplyDeleteHey Fragrant! I've missed your face as I have been mostly MIA from blogland lately. Been hibernating and sulking and traveling and getting a colonoscopy! Good times, sistah. We should do it together sometime - like a Boxtox party. Yes?
Anywho... forgive me for being absent. I'm coming around and promise not to let so much time go between visits.
XO
Poor precious girl! I'm with her - I hate spiders. They come in too many weird combinations of bodies and legs. Hope the weirdo spiders stay away from her.
ReplyDeletePheww! I was hoping that would be the punch line.
ReplyDeleteCheers,
SLC
hat's really funny. Sounds like something I would do. Ranting and raving about racism while my daughter has a perfectly rational fear of black widows.
ReplyDeleteI don't know what you're going to do for material when Miss America gets too cool to shoot the shit with her gorgeous Gramma, because that kid is pure GOLD!
ReplyDeleteHey, did you catch the game tonight from your treadmill?
Good game!
Your goalie was on fire!
Oh, CLASSIC!!!! I love this so much.
ReplyDeleteAw, that is too cute. But good job on the political correctness speech. BTW I've nominated you for a Beautiful Blogger award. Come by and pick it up! http://mizdinah.blogspot.com/2010/02/and-award-goes-to.html
ReplyDeleteLOL! Out of the mouths of babes..
ReplyDeleteOne of my biggest fears is that I'm sitting out in the garden enjoying a book and guzzling I mean sipping a beer and then some black weirdo appears out of nowhere and bites me.
ReplyDeleteHA too funny!!!!
ReplyDeleteLOVELY BLOG!
ReplyDeleteSOOOOO CUTE AND SWEET!
TAKE CARE,
ROSA
Laughing my butt off...sometimes all you really need is a translator!
ReplyDeleteIt's funny how I had practically the same conversation with my drunken Sergeant Friday night.
ReplyDeleteSpiders scare him as well.
Awesome. Kids really make us realize how lost our innocence is.
ReplyDeleteI'm with her on this one. I don't want to move where those black weirdos are either! LOL!
ReplyDeleteI knew exactly what she meant! Swear.to.God!
ReplyDeletehahahahaha!!
ReplyDeleteThat is cute and funny!!
ReplyDeleteToo funny! And I agree wholeheartedly! I don't like any black weirdo's crawling on me either!
ReplyDeleteHilarious.
ReplyDeleteMy niece lives in the city of Detroit describes peoples differing skin colors: my (cream, tan, brown, cocoa) friend.
It's illuminating how kids raised in homes where prejudicial descriptions are not commonly used find ways to express the uniqueness of people in their culture.
