To be honest, I'm hooked on the Oscars because of all the foo-foo glamour. I'm all about seeing my choice of favorite movies validated but, even more, I like to judge the stars in their natural habitat, the red carpet, and see who rocked it and who didn't. I myself am wearing jeans, a t-shirt, and barbecue sauce while watching the spectacle, so I am technically looking up at them, not down. This is one time it's okay to be judgey. Am I right?Now that the Oscars are over, I'm giving big props to the Bigelow chick who won Best Director for The Hurt Locker, because not only was she the first woman ever to win the Oscar for best director, but she also rocked the stage in that satiny, pewter, figure-flattering frock (say that three times fast). And how great is it that she won this prize over her famous EX? That's an In-your-face-sucker! moment, isn't it? Bet she raised her fist to Cameron and shouted, "Avatard!"
Although my new fave movie of all-time, Cameron's Avatar (seen twice in 3D and plan to see it again before it's out of theaters), didn't win best picture, I still think it's the most uplifting, invigorating, full-body thrill ride in a chair you can have. With or without a friend--er, I mean, popcorn.

ReplyDeleteHollywood does not LET women direct studio films. DOES NOT LET. So this was beyond huge. It felt like every woman I've ever known who broke her balls in this town and in this business won as well. Yay us.
I also loved Avatar. My viewing in the cinema was a wonderful experience.

I knew that Avatar would not win best picture. They never give it to the big budget film.

ReplyDeleteWould you believe Avitar as only JUST come out on release over here? My eldest took his not-a-girlfriend (least that's what he keeps telling me when he sneaks her into his room) to see it last night - it blew them away. I can't wait to see it.
i don't normally watch the oscars but i did last night. i haven't seen several of the movies, but now i probably will. i LOVED that bigelow won (because i always root for the girl and how cool to be able to in-your-face your ex, especially whe's he's the crowned king of the world). how sweet that victory must have been for her. loved sandra's win and speech, i cried, i laughed. it was a good show. now i have to see the hurt locker, avatar, up in the air, an education and a few others : )

The good thing about wearing barbecue sauce is that you can always snack on it when hungry AND you make lots of doggy friends AND get fit running away from them. A win win situation if you ask me.

ReplyDeleteThe Oscars are an event Chez Moi. My favorite thing about Ms. Bigelow's win was her reaction - she was completely and charmingly overwhelmed by the Best Picture win. I loved it when Steve Martin & Alec Baldwin tried to take the statuettes from her - she would. not. let. go.

Oscars are best viewed on Tivo! Except when you get to the very end before they get to the final 4 big awards of the night and the fucker cuts off because they run long.

I love the Oscar's but it makes SM antsy so we get glimpses not the whole show. Finally when he had to "hit the head", which I have an urge to do alot, I took the damn man handle remote and watched the end. Rockin chicks, MS. Bigelow and the ever wonderful Sandra (too hilarious) Bullock with the hunky man cnady.

I have never seen the pre-Oscar hype like this year...it was sickening. And, the morning after, I still don't know what happened. I just think I am past the Hollywood thing...but they make great jokes for me, but it seems almost tiring sometimes.

I didn't see Hurt Locker, but I agree with you about Avatar. I initially didn't want to see it but I am so glad I did. I was fascinated.
ReplyDeleteI always watch the Oscars, especially for the gowns and gossip. I loved a lot of the dresses, and didn't hate as many as I usually do. Kate Winslet, Sarah Jessica Parker, Cameron Diaz, Katherine Bigelow, Sandra Bullock, Queen Latifah, and Penelope Cruz all come to mind as having cleaned up especially nicely!

Anyway, I like jeans and BBQ stained shirts way better than all those fancy gowns. It just seems more, ?, me...because, I have several shirts with mustard or BBQ sauce stains.
Luckily, Peanut Butter does not stain too badly.

We are big Awards Seasoners in my house. Starts with People's Choice or Golden Globes or whichever is first and ends with Oscar Oscar. This was a good one as far as the speeches, hosts, glitz, etc. Lots of interesting stuff.

Reality is he was married to her for two years twenty years ago. Other than being bummed he lost, I'm sure there wasn't any crazy animosity between the two, as much as the commercial and social media... and my wife would like to think so.
This was the first time I'd actually watched the awards!

I loved Avatar but: a. While visually it was easily the most amazing thing ever seen by anyone anywhere, the story sucked and b. it's the first movie I've seen on the theatre in almost 2 years because of the babies, so what the hell do I know?

ReplyDeleteI love winning the nightly squabble for the remote just FOR ONCE on Oscar night. Husband knows he owes it to me. He wriggles during the longwinded speeches. We laugh together at outrageous outfits. And we consider how old we've gotten when the Breakfast Club clan gets up on stage and looks ancient.

ReplyDeleteHurt Locker was the only one I've seen so I'm glad they cooperated and chose it for me. When ya live out in the sticks you gotta wait for the NetFlix to hit the mailbox. But how's about that Kanye moment, when the unbelievably rude purple-clad woman nearly bowled over the poor guy giving his acceptance speech and stole his one moment of a lifetime!!! She should be strung up by her heels!
