Men, Friends, and Gods of the Arena

Important reminders for Fragrant Liar this week:

  1. Just because a guy says he wants to see you again doesn't mean he really does. He may have good intentions, but here's what I know: if a guy is really interested, he'll do what it takes to make it happen. He will not wait. Esta mujer no espera a nadie.
  2. Each tweet sent out to the universe is like a hand-scribbled note that says, "Will you be my friend? Check yes or no." I never wanted to go back to the school yard, yet that's what Twitter often feels like. Por favor, decir que sí.
  3. Some of your best friends are the very ones you haven't heard from in awhile but who will surprise you and show up when you need them most; and it will be like no time has passed. Love for my good friends, dormant and present, springs eternal. Bienvenido de nuevo, amigas.
  4. When you give someone the benefit of the doubt and go the extra mile to make them feel welcomed in your circle, yet you repeatedly get the stink eye, it's time to raise anchor. Some people carry chips on their shoulders, regardless of what you do. For me, once that ship has sailed, it never returns to port. Adios para siempre, muchacho.
  5. Spartacus: Gods of the Arena (Starz) is my decadent new guilty pleasure. Without. Reservation. High tension. Slow-mo battles. Complex relationships. Explicit everything. As exciting, riveting, and titillating as TV gets. This is why Rome fell, and why I kinda wish I'd been there to partake of it. Meant to be enjoyed with good girlfriends and good wine. Men optional. Más! Más! Más!
  6. Fun, sexy music makes everything mui fabuloso! Even in these shoes.

No le gusta caminar / No puede montar a caballo.
Como se puede bailar? / Es un escandalo!
Following me yet? Go for it! ------>>>

#1 is so true. I plan to drill that into my daughter's head.

Make love on a hard rock on a mountain top!!! It might be OK for a few minutes then what? At my age it has to be a bed... shoes optional.
That is some track!

I'm with you on 1-4, but will confess that you lost me at 5 :) I'm not even on Twitter- which is probably bad for my blog, but good for my psyche. Facebook is bad enough!

I don't really remember what it's like to wait for a guy to call me - I've been married for almost 22 years. It is definitely advise I plan on passing to my girls, though.
We (my husband and I) love Spartacus! We were really sad, that the second season only had 6 episodes.

i have a small, but important, cadre of friends from way back when - and what i love about them is that when they do drop into my life? we time travel - there have been no gaps!

The tweet comment is right on.
And real friends can surprise you and be there for you whether they live in the same area or thousands of miles away. Regarding men, I never believed what they said, only what they did.

I love that song! I've had it as a theme song for years even if I can't wear stilettos.

Twitter is way too high maintenance for me. Ya know?

Your comment about Twitter is so true, maybe the reason I don't go on anymore but I do like FB. And I totally agree with your comment about men, "he will not wait", period!

Number 3 is Right On! And I'll take 3 each of #5. Don't tweet, too much work.

So did Gods stop at 6 episodes? Is that it for the season? Do you know if the OG Spartacus is coming back, or is cancer still kicking his butt??

nailed it. all of them.

So true about raising the friend anchor.

Thanks for the Tune suggestion. Just downloaded it from Itunes.

I have not seen this show...need to check it out.

What is that photo of men with little clothes??? I need to check that out!

Twitter is not a barometer of how popular you are - it`s a complete waste of time and energy - except if you`re a pedant!
We don`t get `Spartacus` here yet but it`s certainly something to look forward to!
Poor Kirsty. x

1. Guys are stupid.

2. Yes, twitter DOES feel like that sometimes

3. I LOVE friends like that. And you're lucky if you just have ONE real friend that makes you feel that way.

4. You can't please everyone all the time!

5. Ah yes, Spartacus - indeed!

6. And music is essential for the soul!

Silly. If a guy doesn't call you back that just means he's gay, phsh.

Mmmmm. Gladiators... bet you can't eat just one! : D

Mama told me not to call boys and she was right.

In fact, all of your points are very well taken. Brilliant in fact!

And those Spartacus dudes, Muy Caliente!!!

No Twitter. No Facebook. Both felt way too much like high school to me.

In fact, when I tried Facebook, I got friend requests from people I knew in high school. People who would not have crossed the street to pee on me if I had been on fire back then. And from reading the narcissitic ass-kissy crap posted on their walls by other non-urinators, I said 'screw this' and deactivated my account.

As for men? I got a great one. And will be forever grateful.

He doesn't look like Spartacus (anymore).

I'd watch the show, if it weren't for the battles.

Friends - I don't know what I'd do without them.

Thanks for visiting my place adn leaving a comment! I dropped into yours and started reading back and was completely engrossed! And the McChicken.com video -- I signed up -- I never knew!!!!

And... just so you know... while flowers are blooming in springlike glory there, it's snowing like crazy here!

I'll be back.

I agree with these!! I have a Twitter act. but I never use it.

I gotta getta twitter.

Maybe.

lisahgolden said...

Well, I'm not giving you the stink eye, I'm tweeting you.

Also, I had my little heart broken by a guy who called himself Spartacus and so I can't watch that show without being reminded of that mess. He gets the stink eye for ruining potential titillation.

The guy in number one is a fool.

Love these - so many truisms and so many that we ignore to our own detriment far too often. If only I got Starz though....

I don't think Gods of the Arena has made it to Oz yet. But I've just finished watching all 20 episodes of the Danish series The Killing.

Highly recommended even if Lars Mikkelson only takes his shirt off once

Will the stream of musicians I've never heard of, let alone heard, never end? Fun music!

i do not get the tweeting. honestly i don't think people need to know i found a deal at the grocery store. you are sooooo right about the true friends coming out when you need them, even if you haven't seen them for ahwile. the dating thing? i'm married so i don't have a clue about that, but i think i'd gouge my eyes out if i had to do it all again.

Love the "raise anchor" advise--so true! #1 is absolutely true--they're not playing hard to get either. ;-)

How I wish I'd learned all this way back when I still gave a crap about men. Now that TV show and a nice Cabernet is more than enough. ;)

I bet you're a helluva good friend.

Jane said...

Hmmm...I could've used the advice in number one about a month ago...lol! WHERE WERE YOU THEN???

SuzRocks said...

Twitter totally feels like school! Sometimes, I'm afraid to reply to a tweet for fear the person won't reply to me if they don't really 'know' me, and then I get my feelings hurt.

By twitter. How much more pathetic can I get?

#3 is so true... Hope all is well with you!

It sounds like *stuff* is going on in your life?? Yes? No? I feel like I'm sort of out of touch with the blogosphere lately. I hope all is well!

I'm also trying to teach my sons that lesson about relationships. It sure goes both ways.

I have to agree on each and every point. The show on Stars reminds me of HBO's Rome - wow, what a show.

Pseudo said...

Love that music you added on the end! How have you been Liar? I missed you when I was away.

Shrinky said...

So true about old friends (smile). I never did get the dating thing - I believed EVERY SINGLE GUY who said he'd call (sniff), so when one eventually did, I married him - end of hassle.

Liz Mays said...

Ok, not Briggs Stratton! I wasn't thinking!!!!! Actually I really was looking outside at the equipment across the street where they're building a house...maybe that's where it came from!

Edie Mindell said...

I hope to get my daughter read #1 to enlighten her love life.:-) I love and agree with #3. Eventhough we're miles and oceans apart, my best friends are always there even just to listen on the phone. Oh, I missed them again.
