Channeling Holly

Has anybody seen Holly Hunter lately? I don't mind saying, Holly is my idol. She is 51 with the body of a svelte and buff 25-year-old. And she's a shorty like me.

I heart Holly. Ineffably. Does it show?

In my life, there was the Great Crappola of 2008. In other words, divorce, empty nest, relocation, job changes (while working for a classic bully), and the big kahuna:  my little sister died. So . . . I took the first half of '09 to recuperate and mull over a new direction. Things going south can lead you even souther, if you're not careful. How far can one go south, I wonder? Past Antarctica, I'm guessing. But if I have one asset worth bragging about, it's resilience. You know, pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and start all over again. Yeah, that I have perfected.

So I'm getting back into working out. The gym experience is becoming familiar again, stamina is picking up, and I'm taking on more and more weights. Boy is my butt sore. But I love it. Before long, I'll be back on the courts smashing racquetballs and making kill shots. Anybody wanna play?

Anyway, I have rediscovered Holly because of her cool show, Saving Grace. Look at her arms, people! Have you seen this woman's thighs? Her stomach is flatter than a desktop. And I'll say it right here: She makes me wanna be a better woman.

Oh yes, I am channeling you, Holly Beeotch. And in the spirit of magical thinking, by spring of 2010, I am going to have a Holly body. Oh yeah.

So, you all are going to hold me to this, right? RIGHT??

I want a Holly body too but afraid this "nearly" 60 year old bod will never, ever look like that. I just need to get off my lazy A$$ and start some kind of exercise routine. I have just one tiny problem - I HATE exercising of any kind! Now, if I can just overcome that tiny problem I will be all set.

I heart Holly Hunter too. Ever since The Piano. And I am also 51 and trying to get back into half way decent shape.

I love Holly Hunter, especially in the NC 17 version of the movie Crash!

OMG!!! She is fabulous!!! I used to work out like crazy, burned out and still sizzling, but am going to get back into it.
Amen, Amazing Grace!

Oh yeah, will be holding you to it.
See though, I'm not so crazy bout those pipes. I've got those pipes and they seem a bit over the top sometimes.
People cross rooms to ask what I do to make them like this.
Construction work will do that, I say.
But yep, all the rest is lookin good on Holly.
And she is such a funny broad.

And HEll YES! I'll play racquet ball with you! For hours and hours and hours!

So glad its all on the up-swing these days, you GO girl!

go get 'em, hotstuff! i'm working out more - mostly because muscle helps weather the hormonal storm (and i've got to go through menopause 'commando' - no hormone supplements). but it's never too late to be healthier, and more toned. even if we never hit the 'holly body', it's worth working toward! onwards, sister!

Cool, it's great that you're getting into exercise. I love H.H. too. She was great in Copycat (cop).

She is a hottie, that's for sure.
I haven't watched her show but I am curious now.

I really would like to have a body like that, but I really don't want to work that hard.

Perhaps a happy medium somewhere between Homer Simpson and Holly Hunter will do nicely for me.

If I say I like her body, do I automatically get one like it?

please say yes...please say yes.

Okay now, start your personal photo journal so you will have before, during and after pics!
It's on! I will help you stick to this and in the mean time, I will work toward the goal with you!
Something about turning 40 in September is starting to get under my skin! YIKES!

ok, I want a holly body too....I'm not 'too' much older than she is so why not, I can do it...I only have to start from -468 from 0 but that's OK, I can do it if you can....yes, when life goes south, the bod seems to too....now why is that? I've been complaining about my body for 40 years and it hasn't made one bit of difference...why is THAT?

so thanks holly....I feel just peachy now...

I'm sooo good at holding people to their goals. I'm just sooo bad at holding myself to them. Ah well. Nobody's perfect.

Maybe one of these winter days we can play some r-ball. I play but I"m not super good, never have competed. Trouble is, when I'm playing tennis leagues, r-ball messes with my tennis swing. But I love playing.

Oh yes, she is gorgeous for 51! I am 51 soon, wish I looked that good! I'm still a work in progress sadly.

I am so out of shape it's pathetic. Six surgeries in 3 years. I feel like every time I've recovered enough from one to *maybe* start exercising I get scheduled for another. My motto is flab is nice. It's soft, it's squishy ....

I had NO idea she was 51! I watch Saving Grace every week, last season I thought she got a little too buff but this season she's softened up a bit. She looks fabulous! I just started my workouts on my new pilates machine today, so we'll see... maybe by 51 I'll look good lol.

Think of how much it costs her to look like that.

I LOVE Holly (she's from Smyrna GA, doncha know, right where I used to live) and love Saving Grace!

Holly Hunter is intense (or appears to be; I certainly don't know her personally!) so it doesn't surprise me one bit that she has a body like hers as I would imagine she attacks anything she wants to do with extreme gusto.

The new beau may be just the incentive you need to accomplish whatever you want; go for it!

Dude - she is a HOTTIE! And you could soooooo pull off her body!

We should meet at the gym sometime. I go about 3x a week now. I like to do that circuit training area in the back corner... have you ever tried it?

Boozy Tooth said...

Right! Absolutely 100% right. And when you get your Holly Body, will you kindly give me tips? My weight loss has left me with wrinkles where the flab used to be. It's always something...

I'll do it with you!

OK I am just here to tell you that I'm no longer speaking to you.

First dating. Then exercising.

We have nothing in common anymore.

Holly Hunter makes me feel kind of "funny" inside...y'know?

And not an "I-just-ate-some-bad-shellfish kind of bad either.

She's 51? I'm impressed!!!

I have no chance. I'm now going to eat lots of ice cream to cheer myself up. Because that will really help me.

I need to watch that show and get motivated. She is a gorgeous woman.

No shit! I used to think she'd be perfect to play me in the movie version of "Bastard Husband: A Love Story," but damn! She puts me to shame! And we're both 51.

Excuse me, I have to go pop in my Buns of Steel video...

Justine said...

Wow, she does look amazing and must work her ass off (literally) to keep that body looking so good.
And I'm glad you're on the road to recovery. But since I'm fairly new to you (only a few months) I must have missed out on a lot. Neck/back surgery, right? That was just recently. What else?

Justine :o )

"She makes me wanna be a better woman."

She makes me want to hate her. Okay, I can't cut off the five inches I hover over you, but I will do the exercise thing. I'm two in on a new regime. How about an arm wrestling contest in a couple of weeks?

Great. Now I'm depressed. The only place my body is hard is on the bottom of my feet...and I'm pretty sure that's only because of the calouses.

I want a Holly body, now! man, I'm 30 and I would kill for arms that toned.
That's it, I'm off to look out the dumbells.

i've always like holly too but haven't caught saving grace. i'm sure you can do it! you too can have a holly body!

I used to live in Conyers, GA where Holly is from. But let me be snarky for just a brief second and say she is on the cover of More mag and really needs a haircut.
Anyway, I need to read more about your year 2008. Mine sucked too. So did 2007.

Holly is fan-freakin'tastic! How about "Home for the Holidays"? I loved that movie! Rent it a week before Thanksgiving. I'm a big fan of Kyra Sedgewick too -- she's more the body type I aspire to, because I could never be as tiny as Holly. I love that we have all these smart women representing the, ahem, 40+ crowd.

Love your blog!
