Binky Boys and My Girl

The Binky Boys have been ruling our roost. I'm talking two almost-3-year-old cousins who have joined forces for four weeks of mischief, mayhem, and mooning. As toity trainees, those itty-bitty buns tearing through the house are a sight to behold -- and with such wreckless, gleeful abandon, makes you long for the days when you had no sense of propriety. Only a pure and unobstructed awareness of being. Of eating, sleeping, and pooping. Traversing the world with a binky in your mouth, a blankie over your shoulder, and a new toy in your hand -- one you have no intention of sharing. Touching and tasting and trying out things -- cuz everything is intriguing and new -- like Nana's shoes. No judgments here. Baby boys are allowed to try on heels in Nana's house, wear pink toenail polish and perfume. And bracelets.

And now one of the Binky Boys has to go home. NAS New Orleans. His daddy's due back from a short mission in Japan and Guam via Anchorage. Yeah, a Navy guy. New family man. Macho. Don't tell him about the pink polish, okay?

Beyond the joy of hanging with my grandson, I've been able to spend the last four weeks with my daughter (#3 of 4 in the lineup), and it hasn't been nearly long enough. Feel like I'm just getting to know her all over again, because she's no longer the precocious little chatterbox, the sullen teenager, the rebellious 21-year-old Navy recruit. She's a beautiful woman, a doting mom, a loving wife, and a grownup I'm proud of. I love her, of course, but I also really, really like her.

Come back soon, Binky Boy, and bring my precious girl, cuz I miss you guys already.

So hard. I can't imagine how hard it's going to be when summer is over and both my girls leave again. And when we have grands, it will be that much harder. Big hugs!

Those boys! Cutest ever!

What a really sweet post, Liar.
Reminds me of the day my son, then 3, came strutting out of my bedroom wearing nothing but my underthings and took a turn through the room of about 20 guests, none of whom I knew real well.

Y' know, people can be a little too up-tight.

Sounds like it's all coming together for you and your daughter, nice. : )

Didn't you just recently post something on this same subject only with you as the star of the story? I'd say you've still got it, girl. :)

The abandon of childhood is something to behold. What fun to have them around. And you know, it's really nice to be able to say "I like" about your kids. To me, that means way more than "I love."

Sounds like you've been having lots of fun! What adorable little guys.

I can't wait till my kids are at the age where they come back to visit me. And enjoy it! Just biding my time...

Oh, MLS, I should have known you would be the one to remember that little foray while the kids were all gone! :) Unfortunately, I was always conscious of who might be peeking through the blinds. These little ones couldn't care less!

They're all beautiful. Isn't wonderful when you realize you like your kids? Makes you realize they actually are human!

Aren't boys a trip? A game materializes with no effort - at all moments.

Glad you had this time. How lucky they are to have you for a grandma.

Awwww. You brought tears to my eyes with this post, and I'm not even a grandma yet!

I know you'll miss them...

They're men, I'm not sure men ever get over that. Doesn't it seem like they all want to be like that, even after they've "grown up"?

ooh! They are sooo sweet!!! I'm glad you got to spend time with them and corrupt their little minds.

That's adorable. I'm sure their father will think so too! Eventually.

It is NEVER long enough is it?! I am preparing for my various children to come home for visits this month and am so excited for this but know it will be over in a flash. Isn't it wonderful when you have children that become more then just children? I am glad that you had this time with them. Isn't it grand to have this time with your now grown children....to have the time of your life with them and their children?

My throat tightened up and my heart felt an ache, when I read about them leaving because I know that feeling all too well. It's hard because the house just doesn't feel the same. I send you giant (((((HUGS))))) and just want you to know I understand. Lori

I cannot WAIT to be a Nona (no Nana, Nona - NAH-nuh). September needs to hurry up and get here, so we can get our hands on our new grandson!

Ahhh, wonderful.

Yes, gleeful abandon and they so enjoy it which makes it even more enviable!

So grand that you really like your daughter, makes you feel that you did something right, doesn't it?

Here via Chairman Bill : I loved this. I too have an almost-3-year-old and she too spends most of her time naked or wearing gender-inappropriate body adornment!
